
Vision
In 2026, SuperNOVA at Dalhousie University celebrates 30 years of delivering barrier-free STEM education to youth across Atlantic Canada. This campaign aims to grow that impact, ensuring that more young people, regardless of location, socio-economic situation, ability, gender or lived experience, can access high-quality, hands-on STEM learning.
We are expanding access to programs that build confidence, spark curiosity and foster belonging in STEM. This includes reaching more rural and remote communities, strengthening partnerships with Indigenous communities, and supporting girls and underrepresented youth. From classrooms to community spaces and on the land, SuperNOVA connects youth to real-world STEM and future opportunities, building a more inclusive, innovative and sustainable future for Atlantic Canada.
Story
SuperNOVA began in 1996 as a small summer program created by Dalhousie Engineering students. Today, it is one of Atlantic Canada’s leading STEM outreach organizations, reaching 15,000 youth each year.

From urban centres to remote communities, we see how hands-on STEM experiences build confidence and ignite curiosity, especially for youth who may not otherwise have access. Our programs are designed to be inclusive, community-driven and responsive, including land-based learning developed with Elders and Knowledge Keepers, curriculum-aligned teacher training to support subjects like climate education and mentorship opportunities.
Supporting SuperNOVA is an investment in equitable education and in the next generation of problem-solvers, innovators and leaders.
As we mark 30 years, this milestone is both a celebration and a call to continue expanding access to high-quality STEM opportunities across Atlantic Canada.
Strategy
SuperNOVA’s approach is rooted in accessibility, partnership and hands-on learning. We deliver in-school workshops, community outreach, teacher professional development and youth programs designed to meet diverse needs across Atlantic Canada.
By partnering with schools, community organizations, and First Nations communities, we bring programming directly to where youth live and learn, removing barriers related to cost, transportation and geography.
Our recently redesigned, curriculum-aligned workshops for grades Primary to 9 integrate emerging topics like climate change, clean energy and the science of sound, while maintaining a strong focus on experiential learning. Programs such as our Climate Education Teacher Conference equip educators with practical tools for the classroom. We also prioritize mentorship and representation, helping youth see themselves in STEM futures.
Impact
Support for this campaign enables SuperNOVA to deliver free, high-quality STEM programming to youth across Atlantic Canada while responding to evolving community needs.
Donations help expand outreach in rural, remote and Indigenous communities, where additional resources are essential to overcoming barriers. They also support ongoing program innovation, refreshing curriculum, integrating emerging STEM topics, and adapting to the needs of youth and educators.
Together, this investment ensures more young people can access meaningful STEM experiences that shape their confidence, skills and future pathways.
